APIS Supports Refugee Families in Cheras and Klang

21-04-2026

At Asia Pacific International School (APIS), compassion isn't just a value—it’s a practice. Over the past two terms, our students and staff have embarked on a meaningful journey to support refugee communities, proving that when a community unites, it creates a lasting impact.

The Spark: A Story of Courage

The initiative began in October 2025 with a visit from Ms. Comfort, who shared her lived experience as a refugee. Her story of resilience deeply moved our secondary students, transforming empathy into a collective call to action.

Term 1: Giving from the Heart

Students from 7A and 8A spearheaded a school-wide food and clothing drive. The generosity of our APIS families was overwhelming, leading to a magical year-end celebration:

  • 44 children from Klang were welcomed onto our campus.
  • 66 children from both Cheras and Klang received personalized gifts, making holiday dreams come true.

Term 2: Health, Mobility, and Hope

As the new term began, the momentum only grew stronger. Our students focused on addressing the practical needs of these families:

  • Mobility: Class 8B organized a non-uniform day, raising the necessary funds to provide transportation for 22 children and their guardians from Cheras to attend outreach programs.
  • Healthcare: Class 7B took on the ambitious goal of making professional medical care accessible to those who need it most.

A Milestone Day at Tatt Khalsa Diwan Gurdwara

On Sunday, April 12th, the vision for community health became a reality. In partnership with the Ekta Club and the Sikh community, we hosted a comprehensive medical camp in Kuala Lumpur.

Through the guidance of Ms. Harmeet and Ms. Sarjit, families received expert care across several specialties:

  • Paediatrics & General Medicine
  • Dentistry & Dermatology
  • Eye Screenings

The day was a beautiful display of hospitality, filled with shared meals, volunteerism, and genuine care.

"It was truly heartwarming to witness such compassion in action – our students, staff, parents, and community partners coming together to support those in need." — Ms. Gina & Ms. Aline

A Heartfelt Thank You

We extend our deepest gratitude to our students, parents, staff, and community partners. Your generosity has provided more than just supplies and check-ups—it has provided hope and created a meaningful, lasting impact.
