30-07-2026

Future Pathways Day at Asia Pacific Schools (APS) welcomed two experts from complementary fields to inspire students through real-world career insights and big ideas. Held as part of a special Career Talk session, the event introduced students to the dynamic worlds of architecture and modern broadcasting.

Designed to help students explore prospective career fields, these sessions encouraged learners to map out their Future pathways and consider the profound impact their future professions can have on society—all within an environment Where Confidence Grows.

Find out more about what we mean by Future Pathways, here.

Architecture as a Force for Change

Many students arrived expecting a technical lecture on building design, but they left with a vastly expanded perspective after renowned architect Ar. Sarly Adre Sarkum delivered his talk, titled "So You Want to Become an Architect? Ar. Sarly encouraged students to look beyond brick and mortar, framing architecture as a powerful discipline dedicated to solving complex problems, shaping communities, and driving local and global economies. "Architecture is about people," he shared, reminding students that modern architects are key players in safeguarding the future of our planet. He highlighted that while AI will reshape professions, climate change will redefine how we build, and technology will transform industries, the world will always need people who can think critically, collaborate effectively, and care deeply about improving the human condition.

Exploring Opportunities & Worldly Perspectives in Radio Broadcasting

Complementing this theme of innovation, media professional Rizal Sahimy took center stage to provide an inside look at the fast-paced world of broadcasting.

Offering firsthand insights into the audio media landscape, Rizal highlighted diverse opportunities across radio production, content creation, and live programming. He also shared personal video messages from active Astro Radio DJs, who offered real-world advice to aspiring broadcasters on the key skills, mindset, and authentic passion needed to thrive on air.

Beyond microphone skills, Rizal emphasized that being a compelling broadcaster demands authentic real-world knowledge and a broad perspective:

  • The Power of Travel & Cultural Exposure: Traveling and experiencing diverse cultures broadens your mindset, giving media professionals the fresh perspectives needed to connect with varied audiences.
  • Real-World Knowledge for On-Air Personalities: A great radio presenter draws on genuine life experiences, current affairs, and global awareness to keep content relatable, engaging, and meaningful.
  • Digital Evolution: How modern radio blends traditional live programming with creative digital storytelling to shape cultural conversations.

Preparing for an Evolving World

Both presentations reinforced a vital reality: the world these students will enter is shifting rapidly. Yet, as Ar. Sarly reflected after the session, uncertainty also creates incredible opportunity. The future is being shaped by the core qualities developed in school today:

  • Critical Thinking: Analyzing complex systems and solving problems creatively.
  • Collaboration & Leadership: Working effectively across teams to tackle challenges that seem impossible today.
  • Curiosity & Empathy: Caring deeply about human connection—because every great journey starts with curiosity.

As our speakers demonstrated, the future is being built long before careers begin—it starts right here in the classrooms and spaces of APS, where every student's pathway takes shape.
